Learning French the Chatterbug Way

After building Chatterbug and successfully helping thousands of students learn the other languages that we offer, we now hope to be able to do the same with the language of diplomacy and of love: French!

But what makes us stand out?

To help you learn French, Chatterbug uses the same tried and tested elements that we have used for our other languages and with which our students have had so much success. It’s as simple as one two three with Chatterbug.

First, the most important element of our system and the one that we’re most proud of: our Live Lessons. We are convinced that the most effective way to learn a language is to begin using it as soon as possible and to practice it as often possible. But this is often easier said than done.

Our Live Lessons are 45 minute one-on-one sessions with our highly motivated and supportive pool of tutors located around the world so that there is always someone available for you to practice with, no matter your timezone or schedule.

We designed our Live Lessons to provide a safe space where you can practice and improve your French with the help of friendly tutors who lead you through structured exercises that work on every aspect of the language. The Live Lesson platform can be accessed straight from your browser so that you don’t have to think about downloading or installing anything, making the experience seamless.

They are also a lot of fun!

Next, we have self-study activities to complement the live lessons. You will learn and practice new words and phrases through our adaptive spaced repetition systemthat tracks your progress so that it knows which words you need to be reminded of, and when, to keep on expanding your vocabulary.

For those of you that aren’t satisfied with “just” being able to speak well, but also want to know the why behind the way sentences are structured we also have written explanations of French grammar.

Finally, to round it all up, we’ve gathered and curated a library of video media content that categorized according to CEFR level so that even if you’ve only got five minutes you can still get your daily practice.

But why French?

Four years ago, our CEO, Scott, tried to learn French. After failing spectacularly at first, he decided that there had to be an easier way than those that existed at the time and when he didn’t find it, he decided to build it from the ground up.

This led to a series of experiments, conducted mostly on himself at first, to find out what it takes to learn a language and to collect and organize the resources that are needed to do so.

The result: Chatterbug, the hassle-free, comprehensive language solution that combines the best of both worlds: the ease and flexibility of digital language learning apps and the proven effectiveness of private tutors or in-person language learning schools.

But until today, Chatterbug was only available to English speakers that want to learn German and Spanish, and to Spanish speakers that want to learn English. Today, this has changed.
